I am going to show you how to create a Quidco account and begin to earn extra money online and offline without doing any more than simply continuing to make normal everyday online purchases of goods and services. You can even earn cashback offline at Quidco by simply registering your card details with them and each time you shop at a participating store you will automatically be credited with cashback. Creating an account at Quidco is a relatively simple process (though it is made more complicated by the 2 levels of membership described below):
(1) Click here and you will arrive at this screen:
(2) Click “Join Quidco Free” and you will arrive at this screen (too long to fit into a single screenshot!):
(3) Either Join with Facebook or enter your personal details in the relevant boxes. Choose a password, choose the correct symbol, confirm the Ts & Cs and click “Join Quidco Free”. Note that the other information requested is optional. You will arrive at this screen:
(4)The final step is to locate the email in your inbox, click on the green “Authenticate Now” button
CONGRATULATIONS! Your Account is now set up.
Free or Premium Account?
The Free Account is .. well .. free obviously. The Premium Account has a £5 retention fee, which means that your first £5 of cashback every year will be retained by Quidco. I see no reason to choose a Premium Account. The Pros and Cons are listed here. The first time that you log in to your Quidco account you will be asked to choose whether you want a Free Account or a Premium Account. The only real benefit of the Premium Account is:
- slightly faster payment times from some retailers;
- Access to Live Chat and Request Call if you need to chase missing cashback credits.
How to Log In to your Quidco Account
- Visit www.quidco.com and log-in using your registered details; or
- Download the Quidco Application from the relevant App Store for FREE and log-in using your registered details
Downloading the App
If you wish to take full advantage of the Cashback Offers available at Quidco you ought to consider downloading the free application for your smartphone (iPhone or Android). Once it has been downloaded and installed you can use it to earn cashback by buying goods and services online as if you were using your home computer. There is some reduced functionality as compared with accessing your account using a computer as one would expect of any application, but these limitations are largely related to account management rather than completing transactions. In due course, I will create a specific post dedicated to how to use the Quidco App.
The Demise of the Quidco Check-in?
One of the best features of Quidco was the ability to earn cash by checking-in to shops using their App. I know that it sounds somewhat bizarre, but the Quidco member would get paid for pressing the check-in button on the App provided they were within about 100 yards of the participating store (so you didn’t even need to visit the store to check-in!). The check-in cash rewards generally ranged between 5p and 30p and you sometimes got offered a bonus for sharing on Facebook or Twitter. For some reason, whilst their website still refers to the check-in function when describing the benefits of the App, the check-in option no longer appears when you pass stores that previously participated in this scheme. I suspect that the retailers have taken the decision that the scheme was not attracting sufficient actual customers to pay for those who were just “playing the system” to pay for their Saturday afternoon coffee at the local shopping mall!?
If the Quidco check-in feature is ever re-introduced I will explain how it works on this site.
This is the only reason that I continue to use Quidco despite the demise of the check-in scheme. I find the Topcashback website to be easier to use when looking for online deals and don’t forget that there is a £5 annual retention fee at Quidco if you have ignored my advice and chosen the Premium Membership option. This means that you need to earn £5 each year before you can start to earn cashback. So, for example, if you earn £50 in cashback you only actually receive £45. At Topcashback there is no annual retention fee at all.
The “offline” cashback process at Quidco is, however, very simple to use. You simply register your credit/debit card numbers (as many as you like) with Quidco and whenever you use those cards to purchase goods and services at participating retailers, you are automatically credited with cashback. There are some large UK stores who participate in this scheme, including Debenhams, Cineworld, Halfords and H Samuel.
Receipt Upload Cashback
This facility is very similar to TopCashback “Snap & Save”. You simply take a photograph of your purchase receipt and send it to Quidco. Participating retailers include Moss Bros, The Body Shop and The Fragrance Shop.
I know that some of you will be concerned about the security of your financial information. However, you will note that the account creation process did not require you to reveal anything to Quidco other that your name and email address.
You will also be reassured to know that there are a variety of ways to receive your cashback when it has been processed. Whilst I prefer to receive my money by direct bank transfer (BACS), those of you who are reluctant to reveal your banking information to Quidco can choose to receive your funds by Paypal or in the form of Amazon Gift Vouchers.
For those of you who might be a little worried about completing transactions online via a 3rd party website, you have nothing to worry about. Once you have selected the appropriate cashback offer from within the Quidco website, you will immediately be transferred to the retailer’s own website where the purchase will be completed as if you had gone directly to that website. Quidco are not involved in taking payment for the goods and services. The only difference is that you will get cashback rather than just paying full price for the goods.
I have been using this website for approximately 4 years and I have never had any concerns about its legitimacy.
